Intermediate Unit 12, Architectural Association, London, 2015-16

Intermediate Unit 12 in 2015–16 explored how specific events and their associated activities stimulate the production of architecture and urban life.

We focused on the use of the ‘series’ in architecture and the role of serialisation as a tool for exploring the adaptability of proposals over time. Students were invited to consider possible futures for their architectural proposals, and how these might adapt. These scenarios pushed them to consider the nature of their role as designers, prompting them to work towards establishing their own identities and practice over the year. The unit’s driving force was both design and research, merging architectural representations from the traditional to the contemporary.  This convergence of methods and approaches continues to serve as a methodology within PHASE3.

The unit was taught alongside long-time friend and collaborator Inigo Minns.
