Architectural Association, 2005-2017

Over the course of 10 years, Tyen Masten has researched and developed the role of the architect in creating visionary futures, testing brave new worlds and developing actions that can harness architecture to make these visions real. Teaching within the famed unit system of the Architectural Association School of Architecture (2005–17), he led research on subcultures and counterculture, exploring how both can inform new programmatic approaches and building forms. Through investigations of new material systems, digitisation and big-picture thinking, his work remains grounded in future building, legacy and whole systems.

PHASE3 is a manifestation of this research. The office continually aims to ‘go deeper’ and grow a positive culture that nurtures new ideas, allows for opportunities to empower people and enables the best conditions for creativity, purpose and innovation.
